SUMMARY:Salem Oak Dedication Ceremony at Oak Grove Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:The Hammonton Historic Preservation Commission\ninvites you to join the celebration at the\nSalem Oak Dedication Ceremony\nSaturday\, Nov. 9th at 2:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nThe Hammonton Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) is delighted to invite you to the Dedication Ceremony of the Salem Oak Seedling\, recently planted in the historic Oak Grove Cemetery at 500 N White Horse Pike\, Hammonton\, New Jersey. The Dedication Ceremony will be held at the cemetery on November 9\, 2024 at 2:00 PM. \nIn 2019\, following the unexpected collapse of the almost 600 year old Salem Oak tree\, thought to be the oldest oak tree in NJ\, the New Jersey Department Of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) collected acorns and seedlings from the fallen tree located in the Salem Friends Burial Grounds and distributed them to all of the municipalities in NJ. NJDEP’s mission was to preserve the legacy of the Tree. Not only was this tree environmentally important\, but it also played a significant role in the history of NJ. It was under the shade of this tree in 1675\, that a peace treaty was signed by the Lenni Lenape Indians and John Fenwick\, a Quaker and founder of Salem. The Lenni Lenape Tribe is currently headquartered in Bridgeton\, NJ and their history is studied by fourth graders throughout NJ. Members of the Salem Friends and the Lenni Lenape Tribe have been invited to be guest speakers. \n \nThe HHPC\, in partnership with the Hammonton Environmental Commission and the Oak Grove Cemetery\, received a grant from the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs that has\, in part\, made this Dedication Ceremony possible. The grant has also allowed us to design and purchase an interpretive sign with audio capability in both English and Spanish. A major land donation from the Oak Grove Cemetery gave us a permanent home in Atlantic County for the seedling to grow and prosper for hopefully as long as the mother tree. Donations from the private sector include interpretive services\, research\, labor\, protective fencing and a viewing bench. The Town of Hammonton\, particularly the Department of Public Works and the Administrative Staff\, devoted much time and effort over the past several years to be sure our seedling had the best of care\, and created signs and materials to enhance the community’s knowledge of our local history.

SUMMARY:Tax Sale
DESCRIPTION:**2024 TAX SALE WILL BE HELD ELECTRONICALLY ON DECEMBER 19\, 2024**\nThe Tax Office would like to take this opportunity to provide as much information as possible regarding the Tax Sale Period in November/December. We understand that this is a busy time of year and hope that by summarizing the important dates and methods of payment\, everyone can plan accordingly. All Water/Sewer and Property Tax delinquent balances over $10.00 may be subject to Tax Sale\, which will take place electronically on Thursday\, December 19\, 2024\, as outlined in N.J.S.A. 54:5-1 Tax Sale Law. \nThe Tax Office will be closed November 5\, (Election Day) and November 11 (Veteran’s Day). The grace period for November payments will be Tuesday\, November 12. Be sure to allow at least 3-4 days when mailing payments. Postmarks are not accepted and payments must reach us on or before November 12 to avoid interest and tax sale costs. Reminder notices will not be mailed\, so please contact the Tax Office for an up-to-date balance. Beginning Wednesday\, November 13\, credit cards\, personal checks and online payments will no longer be accepted for accounts that are past due.    \nTax Sale List will be created and sent to RealAuction on November 15. At this point\, cash\, cashier’s check or money orders will be the only acceptable method of payment. Online payments will also be unavailable. Again\, this process only affects those property owners that are delinquent. Tax Sale Notices will be mailed the week of November 18\, and will list the methods of payment being accepted. If we receive personal and/or business checks in the mail during this time period\, we will return them to you with a note stating the proper procedure for payment. \nAdditional Important Dates:\n\nNovember 28/29 – Tax office closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday\nDecember 2-4 – Second tax notice will be mailed\nDecember 18 – Payments will be accepted up until mid-day prior to the tax sale\nDecember 19 – 2024 Tax Sale will be held electronically – No payments will be accepted\nDecember 25 – Tax office closed – Christmas Holiday\n\nAs always\, if you have any questions or concerns about the tax sale process\, please contact the tax office at 609-567-4300\, ext. 119.
